Top 3 Tips for Travelling Solo

Whether you’re single or you just prefer to travelling solo, then check out these top tips to help you get the best out of your travels.

When you travel with friends or family, it’s all about careful planning, coordinating schedules and compromise. It can be a lot of fun – and a lot of work! Today, more people are choosing to travel solo than ever before; after all, with solo travel, the sky’s (quite literally) the limit. Pick your destination, set your own itinerary and explore new experiences at the drop of a hat.

If you’re planning a singles holiday, you are probably wondering how to make the absolute most of it! No worries – at Pure Travel, we’re Australia’s premiere experts on the solo holiday scene. Our quick tips can help you get ready for the adventure of a lifetime, no matter what your plans include!

Pack For Surprises

What does this mean? It means that, even if you have carefully reviewed the itinerary, you can’t really be sure what the experience might have to offer until you’re there and in the moment. And, often, trips will have several exciting options – like learning to sail and, you might want something a bit sturdier than flip flops or heels for an adventure like that.

So, how do you pack for anything without going overboard (pun intended)?

By packing several basic, versatile pieces that can handle myriad adventures (this goes for you men, too)! For women heading out on a solo cruise holiday, we suggest three pairs of shoes: a nice pair for parties or dancing, a casual pair for relaxing by the pool, and a “practical” pair for hiking or exploring your surroundings in port. Men can often get away with casual and practical – although a nice pair of shoes wouldn’t hurt!

For clothing, pick comfortable, dress casual wear that can be dressed up or down with ease. For instance, a pair of khakis pants or shorts can create several different looks, depending on the shirt and shoes worn with them. And, a little black dress (LBD) can be switched up with different shoes, a shirt tied in front or even a bolero jacket.

Learn Something New

Like we said, you never know what’s going to happen when you travel – and that’s a good thing! Many trips offer incredible opportunities to learn a new skill or try something new, and we think you should always learn at least one new thing whilst travelling!

Take in a new musical, like the much-loved Legally Blonde. Learn about the art of winemaking. Or bring out your inner comic with comedy classes. You’ll come back relaxed, refreshed – and with a new skill to show off!

Keep An Open Mind – And Be Spontaneous!

Singles from all walks of life are joining in solo holidays! You’ll likely meet other singles with whom you share a lot in common, and many that you don’t. That’s the excitement of solo travel, meeting new people and learning new things (often at the same time)!

In our day to day lives, we often get stuck with the status quo – and it can sometimes be quite difficult to break out of that mould! When travelling solo, there are no rules! You can stay up all night and get up at noon – or vice versa. If you have a tentative plan for your day, and see something else that catches your attention, you can do that instead! Feel free to shake things up, and be prepared to not be prepared!
